Technology Tools That Make a difference

Assistive technologies have transformed how I learn and participate in class. When I started college, I didn’t know how many tools were available to help me succeed.
Let me share some of the most helpful tools I’ve discovered through the Beyond Disability Club:
Text-to-Speech Software
Programs like Natural Reader and the built-in accessibility features on laptops have been game-changers for processing reading assignments. Being able to listen to textbooks while following along has improved my comprehension significantly.
Note-Taking Apps
Apps like Notion and Microsoft OneNote help me organize my thoughts and keep track of assignments. The ability to add audio recordings to my notes means I never miss important lecture points.
Speech-to-Text Tools
When writing essays, I often use speech-to-text features to get my ideas down quickly. This has made the writing process less overwhelming and more accessible.
Campus Resources
GCSC provides access to many assistive technologies through the Disability Services office. Don’t hesitate to ask about: – Screen reading software – Magnification tools – Alternative format textbooks – Recording devices for lectures
Tips for Getting Started
– Schedule a meeting with Disability Services to learn what’s available
– Attend our club’s technology workshops
– Try different tools to find what works for your needs
Don’t be discouraged if the first solution isn’t perfect
